PNNL Issues Sources Sought Notice for LLW and MLW Transport Contract

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, through operator Battelle Memorial Institute, Pacific Northwest Division, issued a sources sought notice yesterday for the transportation, treatment, final packaging, and disposal of low-level radioactive waste and mixed waste, according to a FedBizOpps posting. The contractor will have the responsibility of treating and transporting the waste to Department of Energy-approved waste sites, mainly the Hanford disposal site, from the PNNL. The contractor will take title of the waste from PNNL, although it will need to receive approval from the Lab for any treatment subcontracts that are needed.

 

According to the posting, the contract will operate under a fixed unit price that includes all the costs of disposal. “The fixed unit prices agreed upon for this contract shall include all costs of treatment, final packaging, landfill disposal and appropriate documentation,” the posting said. “This documentation shall reflect present and future regulatory and Contractor requirements for testing and documentation. A fixed unit price will also be established for transportation and brokerage services in case PNNL elects to utilize those services under this contract. Optional fixed unit pricing may be used when no disposal fees will be incurred by the Contractor. The optional fixed unit pricing shall be agreed to in advance in the Work Orders, as supplied by the PNNL Contract Representative.”
