PROTESTS OF MOAB AWARD DENIED

By ExchangeMonitor

Portage appears set to retain the new contract for the Moab uranium mill tailings remediation project, with the Government Accountability Office having denied two protests filed over the award, WC Monitor has learned. The decisions against protests filed by TPMC-EnergySolutions Environmental Services, LLC, which includes Moab incumbent contractor EnergySolutions, and Gonzales-Stoller Remediation Services are expected to be officially announced this week. Last November, the Department of Energy initially chose Portage for the new Moab contract, which was valued then at approximately $120 million over five years. The work to be performed under the new contract entails the removal of an additional 3 million tons of material to a nearby disposal cell. As a result of the protests filed over the award, EnergySolutions’ current contract at Moab was extended until the end of March. EnergySolutions will likely be granted another short-term extension to provide sufficient time for Portage to now complete transition to take over the new contract..
