President Donald Trump’s four Tennessee Valley Authority board of director nominees testified this week before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
Nominees Arthur Graham, Mitch Graves, Jeff Hagood and Randall Jones, all nominated in July, told the Senate committee that nuclear power, in particular small modular reactors (SMRs), will play a big role in TVA’s integrated resource plan and powering its grid amid growing energy projections.
Lee Beaman, who was also nominated for the TVA, was not considered after he did not complete the paperwork in time to appear before the committee like the others, Knoxville News Sentinel reported Wednesday.

“I see a tremendous opportunity for Deep Isolation as nuclear energy expands rapidly around the world and the need for permanent storage and disposal of nuclear waste grows with it,” Hornbaker said in Deep Isolation’s Tuesday press release. “I look forward to working with the Deep Isolation team as they continue to execute against their strategy.”
