Round Up: UEC announces uranium refining subsidiary; Gracio tapped as PNNL director; Westinghouse signs UK MOUs

Uranium Energy Corp has launched its wholly owned subsidiary, United States Uranium Refining and Conversion Corp, to pursue the viability of developing a uranium refining and conversion facility.

The proposed uranium facility will have the designed capacity to produce 10,000 metric tonnes uranium per year as UF6, representing a large share of U.S. demand at 18,000 metric tonnes uranium per year, according to UEC’s Tuesday press release.

UEC said the proposed project will forward contingent on multiple factors, some including securing strategic government commitments, regulatory approvals and favorable market conditions.

 

Debroah Gracio has been appointed to the next director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, effective Oct. 1, Battelle announced Thursday.

Gracio currently serves as associate laboratory director for the national security directorate at PNNL and has been with the national laboratory for 35 years.

Gracio earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Washington State University.

 

Westinghouse has signed memorandums of understanding with six British suppliers to back the deployment of nuclear projects based on AP1000 and AP3000 technologies.

The MOUs were signed with William Cook Cast Products, Trillium Flow Technology, Curtiss-Wright Controls (UK), Boccard UK, Bendalls Engineering and Sheffield Forgemasters, according to Westinghouse’s Wednesday press release.

The agreements will provide the companies with the potential to supply key reactor components, including pumps, valves and pressure vessels.
