The Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory is shopping around for industry partners to invest between $5 million and $10 million in an “incubator” for startup businesses aimed at areas such as nuclear energy and cyber security.
In exchange for the seed investment, the startups would gain access to Idaho National Laboratory’s “world-class facilities and technical expertise,” according to a Tuesday press release from the lab.
“Partnering with INL adds credibility, goodwill and visibility to the private sector sponsor’s investments, demonstrating viable leadership in technical innovation,” the press release goes on to say.
Oklo Inc. appoints Daniel Poneman and Michael Thompson to its Board of Directors following the departure of Chris Wright, who was confirmed as the U.S. Secretary of Energy.
Prior to his appointment, Poneman served as the deputy secretary of Energy at the Department of Energy from 2009 to 2014. He also served as the president and CEO of Centrus Energy Corp. from 2015 to 2023.
Thompson’s expertise derives from investing in technology companies for over 25 years. He was the founder and managing director of BHR-Capital. Since 2017, Thompson has served as the CEO and managing partner of Reinvent Capital.
Frederic Bailly promoted to vice president of Generation and chief nuclear officer at Southern California Edison, Edison International’s subsidiary.
Bailly will now oversee the company’s entire Generation organization, as well as the continued decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station.
Former Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah), the first black Republican Congresswoman, died at age 49 on March 23 following a battle with brain cancer.
Love, who represented the 4th Congressional district of Utah from 2015-2019, also served as a member of Saratoga Springs City Council from 2003-2009, according to the Ballotpedia website. She then became the mayor of the city from 2010-2014 before running for Congress.
