Sanders Hits Trump on Climate in New Video

By ExchangeMonitor

When it comes to battling climate change, there is only one choice in the presidential campaign pitting Republican Donald Trump against Democrat Hillary Clinton, onetime presidential contender Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says in advocating for his former rival in a new video.

Sanders, who has stumped regularly for Clinton since bowing out of the race this summer, says Trump would be disastrous for the climate. “Hillary Clinton is listening to the science. She has a serious set of proposals to try to transform out energy system away from fossil fuels. That’s her view. Donald Trump’s view is that climate change is a hoax created in China,” Sanders says in the video produced by 350 Action.

Sanders suggests that while Clinton’s views miss the mark in some places, “on every important issue, every single one, her views are far, far better than Donald Trump’s and it is absolutely imperative that Donald Trump not become the next president of the United States.”

Clinton has pledged to install 500 million new solar panels across the United States by 2022, to ensure the generation of enough renewable energy to power every home in the country by the end of the decade, and to cut domestic oil consumption by one-third.

Trump, on the other hand, has tweeted several times in the past that climate change is a “hoax” or “BS.” He has pledged to increase fossil fuel production and to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

In a statement released with the video, 350 Action Executive Director May Boeve said “Hillary Clinton isn’t where she needs to be on climate policy.” She noted the former secretary of state’s support for fracking and natural gas. “But she has a proposal to address climate change, and we’ve pushed her toward bolder policies in the past. Once she’s elected, we’ll redouble our efforts,” Boeve said.
