Savannah River Site keeps wary eye on Hurricane Ian

By ExchangeMonitor

Management at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site is participating in daily calls about Hurricane Ian with emergency officials for the state of South Carolina, a spokesperson at the federal complex said Tuesday.

“Site resources have been identified and will be available to respond to any potential site hurricane impacts,” the spokesperson said via email in response to an inquiry from Exchange Monitor.

Currently the National Weather Service expects the Aiken, S.C., area will receive between two and four inches of rain from Thursday night through Friday night with wind gusts potentially reaching 32 miles per hour.

On Wednesday Ian was expected to batter the western coast of Florida with “devastating wind damage” and life-threatening storm surge along the core of the hurricane impact area in Florida, according to the National Weather Service.
