By ExchangeMonitor
The contractor tasked to dispose of legacy nuclear liquid waste at the Savannah River Site this month issued a request for proposals for a subcontractor to remove cesium from that waste. “The scope of this activity is for a supplier to provide a commercially-available ion exchange process (known as Tank Closure Cesium Removal (TCCR)) to remove and separate cesium contamination from aqueous high-level waste,” according to the RFP from Savannah River Remediation. “The subcontract will design, fabricate, factory acceptance test (FAT) and deliver the TCCR system. Additional the subcontractor will provide a method of interim safe storage, technical support to SRR for Safety Basis Analysis, waste determination, operating procedures and training, and … other services and the materials and consumables … to process the cesium removed from Tank 10H.” Proposals are due no later than 5 p.m. local time on Sept. 21 at the Savannah River Site Procurement Representative’s Office. The anticipated fixed-price contract is expected to be issued in October and to be completed by November 2016 or 15 months after receipt of order.
