Nuclear Management Partners, the URS-led parent body organization overseeing the United Kingdom’s Sellafield site, is denying speculation that Managing Director Todd Wright will soon leave his post and have his duties taken over by Executive Officer Tony Price, who was appointed this week. Price was brought on to “support Todd’s drive for improvements across the site, including legacy ponds and silos and procurement implementation,” NMP spokesman Harold Ashurst told WC Monitor. When asked about reports that Wright would step down next week, Ashurst said, “It’s all speculation. It’s not something we’d comment on, but he’s certainly not leaving next week.”

Earlier this week the Public Accounts Committee of the U.K. Parliament released a report critical of management at Sellafield. While the appointment of Price will address some of the concerns that have been raised, it was “not a knee jerk reaction” to the report, Ashurst said. But this week representatives from two of the U.K.’s labor unions have also questioned NMP management. “There needs to be immediate change at the top of the consortium,” GMB National Secretary Gary Smith said in a statement. Prospect National Secretary Mike Graham said that “NMP Ltd should not only be called to account but it should question whether the senior management team at the site are delivering the promised commitments.”
