After twice delaying the vote, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is set Wednesday to consider President Donald Trump’s appointments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission: Annie Caputo and David Wright
Caputo and Wright both sailed through their confirmation hearings in June. If they are confirmed by the committee and then the full Senate, the NRC would have five sitting members for the first time in years.
Caputo, a nuclear engineer who is now a senior policy adviser to Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wy.), would fill out the remainder of a five-year term through June 30, 2021.
Wright, an energy consultant who has led both the South Carolina Public Service Commission and the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, would serve the remainder of a vacant five-year term that ends on June 30, 2020.
The votes are to take place during a business meeting in the Senate Dirksen Office Building. The committee had not announced the time of the hearing at deadline for Weapons Complex Morning Briefing.
The Senate late last month approved NRC Chair Kristine Svinicki to serve another five-year term, to June 30, 2022.
