Senate EPW to hear from NRC nominee Weaver Dec. 3

By ExchangeMonitor

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Nuclear Regulatory Commission nominee Douglas Weaver on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern Time in room 562 in the Senate Dirksen Office Building.

Weaver will also be joined by Tennessee Valley Authority board nominee Lee Beaman. Weaver, the fifth potential commissioner for NRC, was nominated by President Donald Trump in November.

Just like NRC commissioner Ho Nieh, who was confirmed by the full Senate on Nov. 19, Weaver also previously worked at NRC for many years. At NRC, Weaver held various high-level positions, such as deputy director and acting director of spent fuel storage and transportation.

After Weaver left NRC in 2012, he moved to the private nuclear sector, working with companies including Holtec and Westinghouse. He currently runs his own nuclear regulatory consulting firm, Atomic Safety.

If confirmed, Weaver would take over the vacated position of former NRC commissioner Annie Caputo, who officially resigned in early August. The term will expire on June 30, 2026.
