Senate to Vote on Confirmation of Assistant Secretary of State Nominee Today

By ExchangeMonitor
The Senate is scheduled at 10 a.m. today to vote on the nomination of Frank Rose for Assistant Secretary of State for Verification and Compliance, after it voted yesterday evening to end debate on his nomination. The Foreign Relations Committee cleared Rose by voice vote in February, a month after delaying a vote on Rose and Rose Gottemoeller, currently Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, because of GOP concerns about a lack of commitment from the Obama Administration to undertake further nuclear weapon reductions only through a treaty process. Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Jim Risch (R-Idaho) had raised concerns about future reductions, and expressed frustration that the Administration had not stated in writing that it would refrain from pursuing reductions outside the treaty framework. If confirmed, Rose would report to Gottemoeller.
