By ExchangeMonitor

The San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station (SONGS) Community Engagement Panel will be briefed on canister inspection results Thursday during a hybrid session to discuss on-site storage of spent nuclear fuel at the plant.

The seminar  is scheduled for Thursday Oct.16 at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time at the Casino San Clemente 140 Avenida Pico, San Clemente, Calif. 92672. It can also be viewed via Microsoft Teams.

James Burns, materials science and engineering professor at University of Virginia, is slated to discuss the review of canister inspection results and the approach monitoring for chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, according to SONGS Community Engagement Panel’s Oct. 9 press release.

Also scheduled for the seminar, SONGS Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation Engineering Manager Jerry Stephenson will show inspection images and findings and answer questions from the community engagement panel members.

According to the release, all of SONGS spent fuel canisters inspected over time have been found to be in good condition, with no repairs being needed.
