SRS delays work Monday due to winter storm

By ExchangeMonitor

Non-essential employees at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina were to report to work three hours later than usual on Monday, following Winter Storm Gianna, which caused significant damage, traffic crashes and fatalities across several states over the weekend.

The city of Aiken, where SRS is located, saw about three inches of snow and temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit, which lead to icy roads and unsafe travel conditions, per local reports in the Aiken Standard newspaper.

“SRS non-essential employees scheduled to work day shifts Monday, February 2, should report to work three hours later than they normally would,” SRS posted on its emergency information page.” Those employees with the ability to telework, should do so until their report time. Only non-essential personnel are on a three-hour delay. All other SRS essential employees should report to work as scheduled.”

The snow storm marked the second weekend in a row in which sites across the DOE complex were impacted by extreme weather. The weekend of Jan. 24  brought significant levels of ice and sleet to multiple sites.
