Union protective force workers at the Savannah River Site ratified a five-year collective bargaining agreement late last week, formally approving a deal that provides annual 2.5 percent wage increases for the workers. Martin Hewitt, the president and chief negotiator of United Professional Pro-Force of Savannah River Local 125, said 66 percent of union members voted to ratify the treaty Thursday and Friday, ushering in the new deal. The bargaining agreement between the union and security contractor WSI-SRS expired April 30. In addition to 2.5 percent annual raises over the life of the contract, the workers also received a $3,000 lump sum payment to their 401(k) retirement plans and a $100 annual increase in employee contributions to the retirement fund.
