Just over a month after signing a memorandum of understanding, CO2 Solutions and Neumann Systems Group (NSG) announced this week that due to “excellent” test results a pilot project slated for April 2015 has been moved up and will now take place in October. The pilot will test the use of CO2 Solutions enzyme-based technology and NSG’s NeuStream compact absorber systems. The pilot demonstration now scheduled to launch in October at NSG’s Colorado Spring’s Facility and will capture roughly 10 tonnes of CO2 each day, which is expected to be suitable for commercial applications such as enhanced oil recovery according to a CO2 Solutions release. The demonstration will run for one month.

According to a joint press release, testing has shown that “the enzyme-based solvent operating in the NeuStream system achieved CO2 capture efficiency comparable to some of the better amines. This kinetic performance when combined with the energy-efficient properties of the enzyme-based process is expected to deliver substantially lower operating costs relative to the best amine-based CO2 capture systems.” Dave Neumann, President and CEO of NSG said in the release. “These results demonstrate how our two technologies complement each other and can deliver a truly low cost solution for CO2 capture and regeneration systems.”
