SAVANNAH, GA. –The Department of Energy’s Portsmouth Paducah Project Office will have three new contractor teams by early October, the deputy manager of the field office said here this week.
Reinhard Knerr, who is deputy manager of the field office for the DOE Office of Environmental Management, discussed the contractor transition here on the sidelines of the Exchange Monitor’s Radwaste Summit.
Two joint ventures started their transition to new work contracts this month, Knerr said.
AtkinsRéalis-led Mission Conversion Services Alliance this month starts its 120-day transition to become the Operations & Site Mission Support prime at the Portsmouth Site in Ohio and the Paducah Site in Kentucky. The contract includes running the uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) conversion plants now operated by Atkins-led Mid-America Conversion Services.
Likewise, Knerr said Amentum-led Southern Ohio Cleanup Co. is starting its new 120-day transition to be decommissioning and demolition prime at the Portsmouth Site, replacing Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth.
Finally, a North Wind Group company starts its 60-day transition in August to become Infrastructure Support Services provider at the Paducah Site. It will replace Swift & Staley. The work includes maintaining the roads and grounds at Paducah.
As a result, the Portsmouth Paducah Project Office, run via a Lexington, Ky.-headquarters, will then have three new contractors, Knerr said.
