Triad National Security will take over management of the Los Alamos National Laboratory on Nov. 1, one of the team’s three senior partners said Friday.
“The transition period will end on Oct. 31, 2018, with an official transfer of operational responsibility to Triad on Nov. 1,” a spokesperson for the University of California said by email.
Triad National Security features senior partners Battelle Memorial Institute, the University of California, and Texas A&M University. On June 8, the Department of Energy’s semiautonomous National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) awarded the company a contract worth more than $20 billion over 10 years, with options, to manage the national security-focused facility in New Mexico.
Besides its three senior partners, Triad also includes industry teammates Fluor Federal Services, Huntington Ingalls Industries/Stoller Newport News Nuclear, Longenecker & Associates, TechSource, Strategic Management Solutions, and Merrick & Co.
An NNSA spokesperson said Friday there were “no protests” of the agency’s award to Triad, setting the stage for the company to take over this fall from incumbent Los Alamos National Security: a team led by the University of California and Bechtel National, with AECOM and BWX Technologies.
All of the incumbents except AECOM bid on the contract Triad eventually won, but in separate teams.
The University of California managed Los Alamos solo for most of the storied weapons lab’s 75-year history. The privately held Los Alamos National Security took over in 2006.
