TVA taps Rasmussen as chief nuclear officer

By ExchangeMonitor

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) said last week it has appointed Matt Rasmussen as its new chief nuclear officer.

Rasmussen assumed the chief nuclear officer role in August as a part of a leadership transition, with Tim Rausch, TVA’s previous head of nuclear, retiring effective Sept. 30, according to TVA’s Oct. 1 press release.

According to a TVA July 14 Securities and Exchange Commission filing Rausch told TVA he planned to resign from the federal utility by March 2026.

Rasmussen will take on the new executive role after recently serving as the nuclear operations senior vice president for TVA’s nuclear fleet. He began his time with TVA in 2002 in engineering, operations and work management roles at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Athens, Ala.

During Rasmussen’s TVA career, he has held various roles such as plant manager and site vice president at both the Browns Ferry and Sequoyah nuclear plants.

“At TVA, we’re not just operating one of the nation’s safest and most reliable nuclear fleets; we’re advancing the next generation of nuclear energy technologies,” Rasmussen said in the release.

Rasmussen earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University.
