U.K. Reviewing Need for Waste Advisory Committee

By ExchangeMonitor
The United Kingdom is examining the role of the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) to see if there is a continued need for the committee’s advisory role, the UK government announced yesterday. The CoRWM operates as an independent advisory committee to the government on issues related to the long-term management of higher activity radioactive wastes, especially the government’s and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s proposals, plans and programs to deliver geological disposal and an interim storage program. The review, according to the government, will examine if there is a continued need for the committee, and if so, “whether CoRWM’s control and governance arrangements continue to meet the recognized principles of good corporate governance,” the UK said. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the review by submitting comment by March 10, 2015.
