The Research Councils UK (RCUK) Energy Program and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) are seeking proposals for the establishment of a center specializing in carbon capture and storage, EPSRC announced Thursday. Funding for the current UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Center (UKCCSRC) will expire in September 2017. “The UKCCSRC has been successful in bringing together the CCS community to focus on underpinning science, co-ordinate CCS research and help position the UK to meet its future energy and environmental targets,” the invitation for proposals says.
The winning center will receive up to £6 million for the duration of the five-year award. “EPSRC supports a portfolio of about £30m of CCS research and training projects. The new Centre is expected to cover the same breadth as this portfolio (the whole CCS chain) and to take a lead in integrating existing activities and applying a whole systems approach where appropriate,” the announcement says.
Applicants must submit an expression of interest to the EPSRC by Sept. 29. All proposals must be submitted to the RCUK by Oct. 27.
