The Amarillo Metal Trade Council, a group comprising 10 local unions representing some 1,200 employees at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, has ratified a new five-year labor agreement with plant contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security, labor and management announced on social media.
The Metal Trades Council announced the ratification Monday on its Facebook page. Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) announced the decision Sunday on Twitter. The new agreement comes into force Tuesday, the company stated.
Negotiations over the new labor agreement began in October, according to CNS’ tweet. Neither party provided details of the deal in their announcements.
Pantex assembles, disassembles, and services all active U.S. nuclear weapons. The plant also stores some weapons and weapon components that are no longer part of the active stockpile.
Consolidated Nuclear Security manages Pantex for the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) under a roughly $2-billion-a-year contract awarded in 2013 and which with options could run through June 2024. The contract’s five-year base runs through June. The NNSA in March picked up an option to keep CNS on the job through June 2021.
