URENCO ENRICHMENT PLANT MARKS STARTUP OF NEW CENTRIFUGE DESIGN

By ExchangeMonitor

URENCO USA yesterday announced the startup of the first of the new TC-21 centrifuge machines at the facility in Eunice, N.M. The TC-21 is expected to be more efficient and have a greater production capacity than the 21 cascades of TC-12 centrifuges already online as part of Phase One of the plant’s construction. “This also is significant because it inaugurates operations in Phase Two of the company’s expansion,” URENCO USA President and CEO Gregory OD Smith said in a statement. “This accomplishment is a testament to all who work on this site who have brought the most advanced centrifuge model in the world into operation in the United States.” The plant under construction has a current capacity of 1.5 million separative work units and has been in commercial operation since June 2010.
