By ExchangeMonitor

USEC announced Friday that it has completed two tests in the Department of Energy research, development and deployment program supporting its American Centrifuge project, meeting to date four out of the nine total milestones required for successful completion of the program. The two most recent tests were related to the extended feed rate range and machine performance parameters. The $350 million cost-share program, which is 80 percent funded by DOE, aims to demonstrate the technology on a commercial scale in order to make it more for attractive for financing, and includes nine technical milestones. “Our team continues to work closely with the Department of Energy to demonstrate the technical readiness of the American Centrifuge technology to meet national security needs and its readiness for commercial deployment,” Paul Sullivan, vice president of American Centrifuge and chief engineer, said in a statement. “We have made significant progress and remain on course to complete the program on schedule and within budget.”
