WCS Completes First Large-Component Disposal

By ExchangeMonitor

Waste Control Specialists this month completed its first large-component disposal in its compact facility, the company announced this week. WCS successfully disposed of four 200-ton steam generators—all class A low-level waste—by placing the material in the compact facility and entombing it with concrete. The generators were transported by truck, marine, and rail methods, another first for the compact facility. “This large-component disposal really demonstrates the long-term benefits the Texas Compact Facility offers to the nuclear power industry,” WCS President Rod Baltzer said in a statement. “We want to thank WMG, Barnhart Crane and Rigging, Canal Barge, and ICE Services Group for making this historic disposal go so smoothly. I’m extremely proud of our team at WCS as they have, once again, proven themselves to be among the best in the industry.”
