WSI FURLOUGHS SAVANNAH RIVER SECURITY FORCES

By ExchangeMonitor

Savannah River Site security contractor Wackenhut Services Incorporated began furloughs Friday as a result of the government shutdown that will impact 270 of its 706 employees, according to WSI spokesman Rob Davis. The furloughs will continue through this week. Last night, two entrance barricades to the site were shut down. “The Department of Energy directed the company to ramp down operations to perform only those activities necessary to protect DOE security interests at the site based  on the current reduction of site operations,” DOE-SR spokesman Jim Giusti said in a written response. “Those WSI-SRS employees needed to protect DOE security interests and operations at SRS will not be furloughed. Affected employees will be furloughed until Congress acts on a resolution to fund the Department.”
