Y-12 Maintains Work for Other Agencies

By ExchangeMonitor
In fiscal 2015, the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn., had a budget approaching $1.5 billion, with most – but not all – coming from the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. The Oak Ridge plant’s budget also included about $51.1 million of work under the Strategic Partnerships Program – previously called the “Work For Others” program.

“This includes work performed for other federal agencies and non-federal entities as well as work for other DOE and NNSA facilities,” Y-12 spokesman Steven Wyatt said.

According to Wyatt, the amount of non-DOE/NNSA work at Y-12 in the last budget year was roughly the same as it was in fiscal 2014. The spokesman declined to provide specifics, although he acknowledged that Y-12 performed work for the Defense Department as a part of the program.

“I am not at liberty to discuss the specifics of the work performed for DOD or the work we perform for other government agencies,” Wyatt said via email.

He also declined to name other non-DOE agencies or institutions that funded Y-12 activities.
