Senior URS executive Randy Wotring will head up AECOM’s work in the federal marketplace, including in the Department of Energy, once it completes its acquisition of URS, according to information released earlier this week. AECOM and URS outlined the planned management structure of their combined organization in messages to employees. AECOM is in the process of acquiring URS in a deal estimated to be worth approximately $6 billion and set to be completed next month.
In the new combined organization, set to be in place in early 2015, Wotring will serve as Group President of Management Services, which will be made up of AECOM’s Global Support Services group and URS’s Federal Services division. Wotring will report to AECOM President and CEO Mike Burke. “Randy is a proven leader with extensive experience in the federal marketplace,” URS CEO Martin Koffel said in a message to employees. “Since 2004, he has led URS’ Federal Services Division, which has grown significantly under his direction with major programs for the U.S. Departments of Defense, Homeland Security and Energy, NASA, and the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority,” Koffel said.
AECOM-URS to Have Three Other Operating Groups
Along with Management Services, the combined AECOM-URS organization will have three other operating groups—Design and Consulting, Construction Services and AECOM Capital. The Design and Consulting group will consist of URS’ Infrastructure & Environment (IE) Division and AECOM’s Professional Technical Services (PTS) business. AECOM Chief Growth Officer Fred Werner will serve as Group President.
The Construction Services group will consist of two segments—Energy, Infrastructure and Industrial Construction, which will be made up of URS’ Energy & Construction and Oil & Gas Divisions; and Building Construction, which will incorporate AECOM’s existing Construction Services business. George Nash, who currently serves as President of URS’ Energy and Construction Division, will be Group President of Energy, Infrastructure and Industrial Construction; while Dan McQuade, who serves as AECOM’s Chief Executive for Construction Services, will be Group President of Building Construction.
Capital Operating Group to Focus on Real Estate, Public-Private Projects
The AECOM Capital operating group “makes direct investments in real estate and public-private projects,” and will continue to be led by John Livingston, according to Koffel’s message. “The group will continue to work with clients who are pursuing alternative-delivery options and looking for partners to provide both capital and traditional engineering and construction services,” the message states.
The combined AECOM-URS organization will also have an “End Markets Group” intended to “promote collaboration across all four business groups in the pursuit of large and iconic projects and the delivery of outstanding services to our clients on major programs,” Koffel’s message states, adding, “The group will function as a strategic partner to the leadership of all four operating groups as we pursue and execute some of the industry’s most challenging projects. The group will organize its activities around four end markets: Infrastructure & Power, Buildings & Industrial, Oil & Gas, and National Governments.” The End Markets group will be led by Mike Donnelly, who currently serves as AECOM’s Chief Executive for Global Support Services.
