Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.), who is serving out the unexpired term of her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), will run for a full term this November after winning a special GOP runoff Tuesday over a member of the House of Representatives.
According to preliminary results from the state of South Carolina, Graham defeated Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) in the special primary runoff 52.5% to 47.5%.
In July, Darline Graham was appointed by South Carolina’s governor to serve out the remainder of Lindsey Graham’s term after the longtime senator died unexpectedly. She is a former commissioner with the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. Lindsey Graham was an outspoken supporter of the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site.
Darline Graham will now face the Democratic nominee, Dr. Annie Andrews, who is a pediatrician, in the Nov. 3 general election. South Carolina has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1998.
