DoD posts request for information on demilitarization of Minuteman II

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Defense, in an online source sought notice May 29, requested industry responses for demilitarizing the Boeing LGM-30 Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile motors.

The notice on procurement site sam.gov said the Space Systems Command’s Rocket Systems Launch Program is collecting information on vendor capabilities for demilitarization of motors through a method called “wash out,” or the process of removing residual propellant from solid rocket motors, or other means.

The government estimates that a minimum of 12 motors and a maximum of 48 motors will annually require completion. The expected period of contract performance is five years, with the possibility to extend for five years to total 10 years.

The notice requires responses by June 12, 2025 at 12 p.m. Mountain time.

The Minuteman II was in service as the land leg of the nuclear triad from 1965 to 1994, before being replaced by the third version of the missile, Minuteman III.
