DOE, contractor set briefing on WIPP progress

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy and its prime contractor for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant will brief the public Wednesday April 30 in Carlsbad, N.M., on issues affecting the nation’s only underground disposal site for defense-related transuranic waste.

DOE and Bechtel National’s Salado Isolation Mining Contractors will hold a hybrid community forum  on Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) developments from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Mountain Time at the Skeen-Whitlock Building Auditorium in Carlsbad.

A virtual registration link is available online for the community forum.

WIPP, which recently had a maintenance outage, is completing several major infrastructure programs, including the new Safety Significant Confinement Ventilation System. The new ventilation system is meant to more than triple underground airflow.
