The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management has promoted Mindy Toothman to be deputy manager at the Carlsbad Field Office in New Mexico.
In the new role, Toothman will assist DOE Carlsbad Manager Mark Bollinger in overseeing operations at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), which is the nation’s only deep disposal site for defense-related transuranic (TRU) waste, according to a Monday news release.
DOE Environmental Management began advertising to fill the position in April.
Toothman, who brings 20 years of project management and oversight experience to her new position, was most recently assistant manager for the Office of National TRU Program. That job involved working with the certification and transportation of waste to WIPP, according to the release.
Toothman holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Eastern New Mexico University and has also been a federal contracting officer representative for three big contracts and led the National TRU Program User Group, DOE said in the release.
“Mindy’s ties to the Carlsbad community and her extensive experience and deep understanding of the National TRU Program make her exceptional for this position,” Bollinger said in the release.
The Carlsbad deputy boss job was previously held by Betsy Forinash, now with Navarro Research and Engineering.
