DOE taking comments until Oct. 10 on grant program for disadvantaged communities

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy has $19 million in grant funding available for disadvantaged communities affected by decades of nuclear work, the agency said in a Tuesday press release.

Comments are due within three weeks on the draft funding opportunity announcement for DOE’s Community Capacity Building Grant Program, the agency said in the press release.

The program will award multiple grants, lasting from one-to-three years. The grants are meant to further economic development goals, promote revitalization and “promote inclusive community engagement practices,” DOE said in the release.

The grants would be worth between $1 million and $5 million each. Independent school districts, state, county as well as federally-recognized tribal governments could be eligible, according to a brief synopsis of the program.

DOE expects to finalize the grant funding opportunity after digesting the comments, DOE said in the press release.
