Fluor selected retired U.S. Navy Adm. James Caldwell to its board of directors as the engineering and construction company expands its work across nuclear energy and government markets.
Caldwell, who joined the board Aug. 4, served as director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program from 2015 until his retirement from the Navy in January 2024, according to the Fluor press release. In that role, he oversaw the program responsible for the Navy’s nuclear-powered submarine and aircraft carrier fleet, as well as the organizations supporting those programs. Under his tenure, the program recorded more than 15 million miles of nuclear-powered operations and more than 800 reactor-years of safe operations, according to Fluor.
Caldwell also helped advance international naval nuclear cooperation, including work with the United Kingdom and efforts supporting Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine program under the trilateral AUKUS partnership, the release said.
Fluor Chairman James Hackett said Caldwell’s experience in nuclear operations and safety, strategic planning, risk management and government affairs would support the company’s growth in nuclear energy, government and defense markets.
Caldwell currently serves as president and chief operating officer of Orion Nuclear Energy Corp. He will serve on Fluor’s Audit and Governance committees, and brings the total Fluor Board members number up to 11.
