The full Senate is expected to vote Monday evening on whether to confirm Chris Wright as the 17th secretary of energy.
Sometime after 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, the Senate is expected to vote on Wright, according to a Senate website. Wright is currently the CEO of Liberty Energy, a company that provides services and technology for oil, natural gas and geothermal energy.
On Thursday evening, 62 senators voted to end debate on Wright’s nomination, clearing the way for a floor vote to be scheduled.
Earlier in January, three-quarters of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted to advance Wright’s nomination out of committee.
One of the committee’s Democratic Party “no” votes was Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), saying she wanted a firmer commitment from Wright to fully fund cleanup of the DOE Hanford Site in her home state.
The Senate received Wright’s nomination from President Donald Trump on Jan. 20.
