Entergy Louisiana, Meta look to add more nuclear to power $10 billion data center

By ExchangeMonitor

Entergy Louisiana and tech giant Meta signed a new agreement to support the construction and operation of Meta’s new data center in northern Louisiana.

Under this new deal, Entergy Louisiana and Meta will look to support several energy sources, including nuclear power uprates, in powering Meta’s data center and broader energy systems, according to Entergy Louisiana’s March 27 press release

Among the investments, Entergy Louisiana is planning to seek nuclear power uprates at its existing reactors and has signed a memorandum of understanding with Meta to explore future development and use of nuclear power. Meta will pay for these investments, according to the release.

Entergy Louisiana, a subsidiary company of Entergy, operates  River Bend Nuclear Generating Station in St. Francisville, La. and Waterford 3 Steam Electric Station in Killona, La. These two plants produce around 15% of the electricity generated in the state.

In addition to nuclear plant uprates, renewable power and transmission line investments are also included in the plans.

Along with the energy investments, the deal also aims to save Entergy Louisiana’s customers $2 billion in savings over the next 20 years. This agreement builds off a previous one that these two companies signed in December 2025.

Entergy Louisiana and Meta said the data center project, which could be completed around 2030, in Richland Parish should  make the region a hub for the high-tech industry. The two companies said the project will create over thousands of construction jobs. Meta is the technology company that owns Facebook and Instagram.

It also produces permanent jobs at the data center itself and engineering and maintenance support services, Entergy Louisiana said.

Entergy Louisiana and Meta announced plans for the Richland Parish data center in December 2024 and broke ground for the project in December 2025.
