Formal Dedication for KC Plant Slated for Friday

By ExchangeMonitor

The National Nuclear Security Administration’s new Kansas City Plant will be formally dedicated Friday in an event that is expected to be attended by Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, NNSA Administrator Frank Klotz and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), among others. Plant contractor Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies completed the move to its new home last month, finishing the work about a month ahead of time and about $10 million under cost projections. The 1.5 million-square-foot facility, located on Botts Road about eight miles south of the plant’s previous Bannister Federal Complex home, was built by developer CenterPoint-Zimmer, financed by the Kansas City Council through the sale of $815 million in bonds, leased to the General Services Administration and sub-leased to the NNSA for $61.6 million in annual rent. In all, about 40,000 moving crates took up about 2,600 semi-truck loads during the move.
