Hearings set on Capitol Hill this week for DOE/NNSA budget matters

By ExchangeMonitor

Two hearings involving the fiscal 2027 budget for the Department of Energy and its semiautonomous National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), including the starting markup for the bill, will take place in Congress this week.

Starting Wednesday, the Senate Armed Services Committee will receive testimony from Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, NNSA Administrator Brandon Williams, and Assistant Secretary of Energy for Environmental Management Tim Walsh. The witnesses will speak on the atomic energy defense activities in the fiscal 2027 budget. The hearing will take place at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room G50.

On Friday, the House Appropriations Energy and Water subcommittee will mark up the fiscal 2027 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Bill. This bill funds DOE and NNSA, and the markup will take place at 9 a.m. Eastern time in the House side of the Capitol, Room 140.

The White House’s version of the budget request would include $32.8 billion in funds to NNSA, the highest request yet for the agency in charge of maintaining the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile.
