Knerr steps up to acting manager post at Portsmouth/Paducah

By ExchangeMonitor

Veteran nuclear cleanup executive Reinhard Knerr is now acting manager of the Department of Energy’s Portsmouth Paducah Project Office (PPPO) in Lexington, Ky.

PPPO manager Joel Bradburne has moved up to acting head of its Office of Environmental Management (EM) as of Wednesday following the departure of Roger Jarrell.

With Bradburne’s new posting, the Portsmouth Paducah Project Office updated its website to reflect that Knerr is now acting manager overseeing remediation of the former gaseous diffusion plant sites at Portsmouth, Ohio and Paducah, Ky.

Knerr came back to PPPO as deputy manager in 2023 after heading DOE’s Carlsbad Field Office in New Mexico for three years. There  oversaw the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, the nation’s only deep disposal site for defense-related transuranic waste.

According to his online DOE bio, Knerr joined DOE in 2001 and also spent more than nine years nuclear criticality safety engineer supporting contractor operations at DOE’s Pantex Plant and other sites.
