New Labor Group President Takes Office at Hanford

By Staff Reports

The executive board of the Hanford Atomic Metal Trades Council (HAMTC) has picked an officer from Local 427 of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades as the next president of the umbrella group for 15 Hanford Site unions.

Jeff McDaniel took over as president at the HAMTC meeting Wednesday after Dave Molnaa, who led the group for 12 years, announced his resignation before his current term expires. Molnaa plans to continue to work at Hanford.

McDaniel has been a project chief steward and the financial secretary for the painters union. He has worked at Hanford since 2005 and is a native of the Tri-Cities. His term will expire with a HAMTC election in December. Among the key issues he is expected to face is ensuring workers are adequately protected from chemical vapors at the Hanford waste storage tank farms.
