AtkinsRéalis-led Mission Conversion Services Alliance is now handling landlord work at the Department of Energy’s Portsmouth and Paducah Sites, a company executive said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, an Amentum-led team, Southern Ohio Cleanup, has taken over remediation at the Portsmouth Site in Piketon, Ohio. Southern Ohio’s contract is worth nearly $5.9 billion over 15 years.
As for Mission Conversion Services Alliance, it is replacing another Atkins-led joint venture, Mid-America Conversion Services. The new contract is worth $2.3 billion over 10 years, according to DOE.
“With this transition, our responsibilities expand beyond the continued safe operation of the depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) conversion facilities,” AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear President Jeff Kendall said in a LinkedIn post.
“We have officially assumed operations under the Operations & Site Mission Support (OSMS) Contract at the Portsmouth and Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plants,” Kendall said. “We are now entrusted with site landlord duties, including utilities, emergency management, physical security, and nuclear material control—all to ensure the safety of our workforce, the public, and the environment.”
Amentum-led Southern Ohio Cleanup is succeeding Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth as the decontamination and decommissioning contractor at the Piketon DOE property.
“Our name may have changed, but we are still the same friends and neighbors we have always been,” Southern Ohio said in a social media post. “Continue to follow us as we safely clean up the site and create an attractive space for reindustrialization and new job opportunities.”
AtkinsRéalis, Westinghouse Government Services and Amentum are partners in Mission Conversion Services Alliance. Subcontractors Swift & Staley and Akima are also part of the team. Dutch Conrad is president and program manager for the alliance.
Amentum, Fluor and Cavendish Nuclear make up Southern Ohio Cleanup. The new Portsmouth remediation team also includes team subcontractors Veolia North America, RSI Entech, Strata-G and A2RGC, which consists of Aleut and Geosyntec Consultants.
