Northrop Grumman Systems Corp.-Marine Systems has been awarded a $111.4 million contract to maintain, overhaul and repair ship service turbine generators aboard the Navy’s Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine fleet.
The firm-fixed-price and cost-only, indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract was posted Sept. 4 by the Defense Department. The deal has a total potential value of $253.3 million if all options are exercised.
The contract covers maintenance, overhaul and repair work as well as long-lead-time material for the submarine fleet. Work will be performed through August 2031, with options extending the period through August 2034.
Approximately 40% of the work will be performed in Sunnyvale, Calif., where Northrop Grumman Marine Systems is headquartered. Norfolk, Va., Kittery, Maine, Bremerton, Wash., and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, will each account for 15% of the work.
No funds will be obligated at the time of award. Funding will be provided through individual orders as they are issued, according to the Defense Department.
The Naval Sea Systems Command awarded the contract on a sole-source basis under 10 U.S. Code 3204(a)(1), which allows for noncompetitive procurement when only one responsible source can satisfy the agency’s requirements.
The Virginia-class is the Navy’s newest class of nuclear-powered attack submarines and is designed to conduct a range of missions, including anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, intelligence and surveillance, special operations and strike operations.
