Paducah data center presentation attracts big crowd

By ExchangeMonitor

More than 100 company and individual attendees took part in a Department of Energy session in December on development plans for an artificial intelligence data center at the Paducah Site in Kentucky, according to an online procurement notice.

Amentum, Ameresco, Big Rivers Electric Cooperative, Burns & McDonnell, BWXT, Catawba, Fluor, General Matter, Geosyntec, Global Laser Enrichment, HDR Engineering, Kairos Power, NextEra Energy, Paducah Power Systems, Sargent & Lundy and Veolia are among the entities that sent representatives.

The attendee list was among the materials attached to the recent online posting.

The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant complex is “centrally located to road, rail and river transportation, situated just north of a major four-lane highway and within 15 miles of Interstate-24 connecting St. Louis, MO and Nashville, TN,” according to a presentation made by DOE’s Paducah Site Lead April Ladd.

The site also offers access to major electric power lines and river barges, Ladd said in her slide presentation.

DOE is planning to use the site to support new federal strategic and national defense work requiring data center development. DOE could support over 500 megawatts of electricity supply at Paducah for a data center, according to the presentation.

Responses to the request for offer solicitation were due Jan. 30.
