Rep. Elect Newhouse Tours Hanford to Get ?Head Start? on Advocating for Cleanup

By ExchangeMonitor
Rep.-elect Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), who will replace longtime Hanford Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) when he retires in January, toured the Hanford site yesterday for the first time since the November elections. The full-day tour included stops at River Corridor, K Area, the Plutonium Finishing Plant, 200 West Pump and Treat, the Waste Treatment Plant, the Tank Farms and the Cold Test Facility. “I felt it was critical to get a head start as I begin my work advocating for Hanford cleanup in Congress.  There is no doubt that Hanford will face many challenges in the year ahead – and there was no better way for me to get started than by a visit to the site,” Newhouse said in a statement yesterday. “I came away from today’s tour impressed by the sheer size and complexity of the work at Hanford, as well as by the clear commitment to cleanup by those at the site. I’m certain that this is the first of what will be many visits to Hanford.  I also look forward to touring PNNL in the near future.”
