Rolls-Royce SMR gets two suppliers for SMR program

By ExchangeMonitor

United Kingdom-based Rolls-Royce SMR has selected Doosan Enerbility and Škoda JS to supply reactor components for its small modular reactor (SMR) program, the company said on May 27.

According to Rolls-Royce SMR’s May 27 press release, the two supply chain companies will conduct pre-production work, including reactor vessel body, design finalization and manufacturing readiness to help with the delivery as soon as possible.

The company said these agreements move it towards delivering Europe its first SMRs. Rolls-Royce SMR said they will also change the way nuclear projects are delivered through nuclear technology, modularization and a ‘factory-built’ approach.

“These are some of the most important long-lead items in nuclear plant construction,” said Ruth Todd, director of Rolls-Royce SMR’s Operations and Supply Chain. “Forming strategic relationships now ensures these critical components can be designed for manufacture, reducing project risk and enabling on-time delivery.”

A Rolls-Royce SMR is a pressurized water reactor designed to produce 470 megawatts.

Rolls-Royce SMR is planning to deploy its first European SMRs in Wylfa on Anglesey in North Wales and Temelin in Czechia. Rolls-Royce SMR, along with Great British Energy – Nuclear, plan to build three SMRs at the Wylfa site. While in Czechia, Rolls-Royce SMR is teaming up with ČEZ to build up to 3,000 megawatts of low-carbon energy in Czechia.

The company selected the Wylfa site, home to a decommissioned nuclear power plant, in November 2025. In Czechia, Rolls-Royce SMR selected Temelin, which already has two operating large reactors, in 2024.
