SELLAFIELD LOOKS TO BREAK OUT ‘TIER ONE-AND-A-HALF’ WORK

By ExchangeMonitor

Management at the U.K.’s Sellafield site is looking to break out big chunks of scope for top tier contractors, and will be holding a summit the week of Dec. 9 to discuss the idea. The concept would be for contractor Nuclear Management Partners to offer “tier one-and-a-half” work, U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Chief Operating Officer Mark Lesinski said yesterday at the Weapons Complex Monitor Decisionmakers’ Forum. “There’s a real recognition that there is a lot of horsepower to be harnessed out there in the tier one community,” Lesinski said. “There are a lot of players that would like to take chunks of it. Sellafield is massive. There are a lot of issues and there is a lot of capability.”

NMP hopes to get feedback at the conference in December. “It’s the market engagement to figure out what are the next steps here to engage in a bigger way the wider market,” Lesinski said. “This is some good news, we need that kind of horsepower. Let’s face it, Sellafield is the biggest issue in the U.K. and arguably one of the biggest issues in the industry, and we’ve got to get this right. We have a long way to go, so we need engagement from everybody.”
