The Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board postponed its meetings of the Nuclear Materials Committee (NMC) and Waste Management Committee (WMC), originally scheduled for yesterday, to Oct. 14, according to an SRS CAB press release. The New Ellenton (S.C.) Community Center will host the WMC meeting at 4:30 p.m., and the NMC meeting at 6:30 p.m. The release states that the rescheduling was part of an “effort to ensure the #1 safety priority of our members, stakeholders, and public in transit.” Rampant flooding and overflowing dams caused widespread damage through South Carolina, and as of mid-afternoon yesterday, at least 14 people in the state had died as a result of the flood and its fallout.
