The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality yesterday signed Amendment 14, the final approval necessary for Waste Control Specialists to schedule the first shipment of waste to be disposal at its Andrews, Texas disposal facility. The first shipment is expected to be a Class B cask of medical sealed sources from Vermont, shipped to WCS by Bionomics on Friday, April 27. The approval follows months of paperwork and compromise between WCS and the state regulators over several amendments to the site’s license.
Meanwhile, TCEQ will be accepting public comment today only on draft contract and disposal agreement paperwork that generators and waste brokers will have to submit in order to send waste to Waste Control Specialists’ Andrews, Texas disposal site. TCEQ will accept comment until the close of business, CST, on the draft documents and the overall procedure for disposal approval at a public meeting to be held at the agency’s headquarters in Austin, Texas today, and via email. “TCEQ is working on a process to streamline the agency’s review of such contracts relating to both Party State Compact and Non-Party Compact Waste,” the agency wrote in a meeting notice.
