Nuclear consolidation continues as EnergySolutions buys WMG

By ExchangeMonitor

The recent trend of nuclear sector consolidation is continuing as Salt Lake-based EnergySolutions said Thursday it has bought WMG, a provider of engineering services and software.

WMG was founded in 1979 and is known in part for its trademarked RADMAN software program for radioactive shipments, EnergySolutions said in a Thursday press release. Over time, WMG has  “established a reputation for providing practical, reliable solutions that support safe, effective radioactive waste management and long-term asset stewardship,” according to the EnergySolutions release.

“Bringing WMG into EnergySolutions strengthens our digital and technical capabilities and enhances the value we provide to customers across the entire nuclear lifecycle,” EnergySolutions President and CEO Ken Robuck said in the release.

“Joining EnergySolutions marks an exciting new chapter for WMG,” said WMG President and CEO Kevin Tuite in the same release.

EnergySolutions announced the acquisition of WMG, one week after EnergySolutions said it was being bought by Energy Capital Partners. That deal is expected to close within a few months.

WMG has offices in Peekskill, N.Y. and Sarasota, Fla, according to its website.

“As the average age of the nuclear industry personnel continues to rise, the resource pool of qualified radioactive material & waste managers and shippers is shrinking,” WMG said on its website. The company adds “WMG’s Shipping Support Services provide a practical solution both onsite  and offsite to assist our clients on an as needed or turnkey basis.”
