The Texas-Vermont Compact Commission is hosting a workshop today to get stakeholder input on what regulations should govern the group’s approval decisions regarding importing low-level radioactive waste to Waste Control Specialists’ Andrews, Texas disposal facility. The questions of what requirements out-of-compact generators must meet in order to secure import agreements—whether imported waste should be given approval and disposal priority for revenue reasons—will be one of the major issues discussed. The workshop will gather WCS, Texas and Vermont utility companies, and disposal site regulator the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality together to hash out the myriad issues at play in creating procedures and forms to govern and accept waste from non-compact generators.
